It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Maria “Yolanda” Escalante on 09/28/26 in Tucson, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents, Armando and Victoria Suárez, and her siblings, Mary “Cris” Suárez and Michael "Eddie" Suárez. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Antonio Escalante; her daughters, Andrea (Rogelio) and Aluvia; her son, Antonio Jr.; her grandchildren, Gabriel and Azriel; and her brother Armando (Julie).
Known to many as “Yolanda,” she will be remembered with deep respect and enduring affection as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose love was steady, gentle, and generous. In the care she gave so freely, and in the quiet strength with which she put others first, Yolanda embodied a selfless and kind-hearted spirit that made those around her feel supported and cherished. Her warmth and loving presence extended not only to family, but also to friends who were fortunate enough to know her.
Yolanda graduated from Rincon High School in 1973. Throughout her working life, she held a variety of positions dedicated to helping others in their education, serving in settings ranging from elementary school to community college. Yet among all she did, she was especially proud of her role as a homemaker—creating a home marked by care, devotion, and the steady comfort of her presence. She was also an amazing cook and baker, and many will remember the love she expressed through the meals and treats she so thoughtfully prepared.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 215 S Craycroft Rd, Tucson, AZ 85711, on October 15, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A Graveside Service will follow at South Lawn Cemetery, 5401 S Park Ave, Tucson, AZ 85706, on October 15, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm.
