Maria del Carmen Galvez

With our hearts full of both sorrow and gratitude, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Maria Del Carmen Galvez (Melo). After a long battle with Alzheimer's disease, she has peacefully passed on June 5, 2026 at the age of 81, in Tucson, Arizona.

From humble beginnings growing up in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, Maria built a life defined by devotion. She was a devoted friend, daughter and sister as well as wife to her late husband of 40 years, Manuel (Kiki) Galvez. She was a proud and guiding mother and grandmother.

Maria is survived by her children; Rocio Galvez Martinez (Hector); Dr. Manny Galvez Jr. (Cristina); Fernando Galvez (Angela); her former daughter-n-law Amanda Canez; and grandchildren Dr. Dominique Galvez (Nick), and Andres Galvez.

Maria laid down the foundation for her family, instilling deep rooted love, pride, and resiliency, that her family will carry forward. She was a woman of extraordinary beauty, grace, and strength, living life as an unforgettable force of nature. With each goodbye, she would smile and joke "Portate bien y si no, invitame".

For more than three decades, she worked for the Department of Economic Security as a dedicated childcare provider, nurturing and caring for over 100 children.

She loved music, dancing, gardening and sweets, especially chocolates!

She will forever be missed.

Family and friends are invited to honor her memory on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at South Lawn Cemetery (5401 S. Park Ave., Tucson, Arizona). The Rosary begins at 9:30 a.m., with Mass starting at 10:00 a.m. We will gather for the graveside burial and a celebration of life directly afterward.
