Marion known to her family as Mom, Grams, Gigi & Great Gigi was 92 years young. On December 30th, 2024 with her family gathered around her bedside singing Amazing Grace she took the last breath of her almost 93 year earthly journey, and immediately heaven filled her eyes. What an awesome moment for her, as she was greeted by her beloved Heavenly Father & Savior welcoming her to her eternity. She was preceded in death by her husband William who passed away in 2018. She leaves her daughter Diane (Lee), sons Todd (Sandy) and Scott (Julie), her grandchildren Jason (Shannon), Derrick (Chrissy), Jenifer ( Seth), Sonja (Caleb), Cassie (Nick) Kristen, Tyler (Ale) along with her great grandchildren Brandon, Hailey, Hunter, Dillon, Shelby Alexis, Ryleigh, Sol, Aranza, Mayrim, Fred, and her first great great grandchild, Hailey's son Asher.
She was the only child of Evangeline (Eva) & Gordon Green, she began her earthly journey in Boise, Idaho but in just weeks the family returned to Duluth Minnesota where she was raised with a large extended family until she was nine years old, when they ventured west stopping in many places along the way, but finally settled in Tucson when she was eleven. She graduated from Tucson High School the class of 1950. After high school she met the love of her life while working in the victory garden in her front yard during the war. Nursing school was suddenly off the table and they were married!
They set about making a life together, over the next nine years they welcomed a daughter and two sons to their world. Life got busy, dad on the Tucson Fire department & mom as a homemaker. She was very involved in school activities, church children's ministry, youth group teen dinners, scouts. Her kids were her priority, she was always present. It has been said, the hands that rock the cradle rules the world, she gave her family all she was. As time passed inevitably the dreaded empty nest journey began, which opened an unexpected beautiful new chapter in her journey. The big move to Pinetop & the building of their cabin gave way to the White Mountains becoming her happy place for the next 25 years. It led to her discovering her love and talent for painting, becoming part of her church bell choir, working at the love kitchen and hiking with her neighbors & new four legged kids Bluebell & Sugarbell her precious Blue tick hounds & Trincket her toy poodle. She and dad enjoyed some traveling, but once again she poured herself into creating an amazing family retreat for all to enjoy! The cabin in Pinetop was a gathering place for the entire family. Many wonderful memories were made as the grandkids & great grandkids grew up visiting "the mountains". First & foremost she taught them to eat their dessert first, then fishing for crawdads in Billy Creek, hiking to the ice cave, sledding in the cinder pit, feeding the ducks & belly boat fishing in Rainbow lake, legendary trips cutting Christmas trees and occasionally sharing the forest, having snowball fights, roasting marshmallows in the cabin's fire pit…Due to all that she did, it was our whole family’s “happy place, a place to gather together, to fill our heart's with a treasure chest of memories and relax!
Sadly when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, the decision was made to move back to their Tucson home, although they sold their beautiful cabin to Derrick & Chrissy, one of her grandson’s, making their dreams come true, it remains in the family today, so the memories continue….
Alzheimer's is such a cruel disease, it's has been a long painful goodbye, it robbed her of the last nine years of being able to be present, or at least the ability to articulate any understanding, but it never robbed her of her smile. She was cared for at Aslan's Assisted Living home, a truly wonderful place that cares for those that are entrusted to them as if it is one of their own family members. We are so grateful to each one of them, we could never repay that debt, they truly are amazing! As we told her when she knew her memory was fading, and was scared, she may forget, but we never would. Her life has been our greatest blessing, and the memories will always be our treasure. She is loved beyond our words, and already is missed beyond measure.
We love you Mom, Grams, Gigi & now Great Gigi, thank you for living your faith everyday, pointing us all to our Heavenly Father, for fiercely loving each one of us unconditionally and for being a living example, of living a life of faith that points others to a loving Heavenly Father, you finished well. As Chrissy said to dad, save us a seat, we are right behind you.
I Corinthians 2:9 But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear has heard, nor heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love Him.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 1:30pm at East Lawn Palms Cemetery, 5801 E. Grant Rd., Tucson, AZ 85712.
