several years.
Marquis was a devoted son and best friend, cherished family member, and beloved
friend. He stayed in frequent contact by phone and text messages with friends and family, and even
found a cartoon character that looked like him to illustrate his text messages. Marquis was born in
Tucson on May 9, 1966. He grew up here in Tucson, and after living in Reno and Phoenix, moved back
about twenty years ago. After attending Pueblo Gardens Elementary School and Townsend Middle
School, he graduated in 1984 from Catalina High School. He subsequently graduated from Chaparral
Career College in ‘National Travel and Airline Careers’ in 1990 and also attended the University of
Phoenix. While he was younger, he was involved with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Tucson, and, as an
adult, served as a volunteer and later, Benefactor.
Marquis enjoyed working as a flight attendant for Southwest Airlines and flew as recently as January.
Before he began flying with Southwest, he was with Mesa Airlines. Prior to that, Marquis had worked
for several years in human resources at Wells Fargo Bank, and then other companies including Sears
and Raytheon. Marquis enjoyed spending time with friends and family traveling, cooking, gardening,
fishing, visiting casinos and attending sports events. His travels took him to Amsterdam, New York
City, Portland, San Francisco, Hawaii, Disneyland and Universal Studios among other places.
Marquis was preceded in death several years ago by his father, Earnest Harris. Marquis is survived by
his mother, Doris, brothers Everett (Connie) and Alex (Mary), cousins including Greg (Aundi)
Simpson, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and his partner of 18 years, Raymond
Ryder, as well as numerous friends and coworkers. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
