Matthew Michael Mastriano

On July 13th, 2023, Matthew Mastriano bid his loved ones "CIAO" to join his beloved Henny in the heavens. Matt was the fifth child born to Rose (de Marco), and Julius Mastriano. Born on November 25, 1930, in Brooklyn, NY and died peacefully with family by his bedside in Tucson, Az. Matt was sworn into Active duty for the US Army in 1952 where he reached the rank of Corporal (T) and earned "Good Conduct" and "National Defense Service" medals prior to being transferred to the US Army Reserves in 1954 to continue another 8 years of service. Matt also relocated from New York to Arizona in 1954 where he attended the University of Arizona. Matt worked at Hughes Aircraft Co. and then went on to work for the Tucson Fire Department in March of 1964 where he retired as a Micro-Processor Systems Coordinator in June of 1992. Matt is the designer of the TFD uniform patch that is still worn today. Matt, along with his partner Helen whom he married on November 11th, 1965, were Esquire Dance Roller-Skating of Arizona and Regional Champions from 1971, till 1975. Not only did he enjoy skating, he was also a fantastic ballroom dancer. Matt had an extreme love for riding horses and was a natural. It began with him playing recreational polo and then expanded into English and Dressage. He purchased a beautiful horse named Great Land Gold (aka Cupid) that was a grandson of Secretariat. Matt then did Grand Prix jumping with Cupid and created a bond that could not be broken. Matt is survived by his daughter Lori Witzens (Kent), stepdaughters Sharon Battaglini, Patricia Villamana (Robert), stepson Howard Martin (Liz) (who we unfortunately lost just 3 days later), 7 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. Matt be will sorely missed and forever hold a place in his family's hearts. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at East Lawn Palms Mortuary with burial to follow at East Lawn Palms Cemetery.
