Mom entered her eternal rest on April 5, 2018 after a long illness. Her fighting spirit, kindness, love and total dedication to her family is what she leaves behind for others to pick up and carry and share in their own lives. A greater love could not be known and felt as what this beautiful woman gave to those close to her.
Minerva was born in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. Her father Guillermo was a legislator for the State of Sonora. After fleeing to Cananea, her father died and she and her four siblings worked at a family candy store. She met her husband, Raul on one of her visits to Tucson where she was working cleaning homes in the Casas Adobes area. They were married in 1958 and had four children; Rick, Christina (Silva), Anita (Raptis) and Minerva or Mini (Colanto). She was blessed with nine beautiful grandchildren who loved her dearly and always called her Tita. She was very proud of her three sons-in-law for the great husbands and fathers they turned out to be.
Mom’s zest for life, her classy demeanor and her great faith is what she gave and leaves her family. She also leaves a great and painful void in all of our hearts. Visitation will take place this Wednesday evening between 6-9 p.m. at Southlawn Funeral Home on Park with the Rosary beginning at 7 p.m. and the Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at St. John’s Catholic Church on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. with internment following at Southlawn Cemetery.
La familia tiene un gran agradecimiento a las tres Señoras que ayudaron y cuidaron a nuestra Madre cada día de su vida. Gracias a Priscilla, Irene y Elena. Fueron ángeles en la tierra para ella y para toda nuestra familia. Que Dios las bendiga siempre con salud, alegría y bendiciones. Merecen y recibirán un gran premio en el cielo por el servicio y el cariño que mostraron con nuestra Mama.
