Weeks, Norma Arlene, 88, passed away November 19, 2018. Born July 19, 1930 in Cleveland, Ohio to Carl & Grace Searles. Norma grew up on the family farm in Hinkley, Ohio where she learned to drive a car and a team of horses. It is where she also developed her love for gardening. Norma graduated from Hinkley High School and shortly thereafter, the Searles family moved to Arizona. They lived in Casa Grande for a short time and eventually moved to Tucson, making Tucson their permanent home. Norma had an adventurous spirit and was always willing to go at a moments notice. As a longtime member of Craycroft Baptist Church, she often chaperoned the youth on out of town excursions as well as countless trips with her adult children and grandchildren.
In 1961, Norma met Joe Livingston Weeks and were married in 1962. They raised two daughters, Margarita (Margie) Lane and Charlene Weeks. Norma had many artistic talents that included sewing, crocheting, and drawing. She often made her daughters dresses for Easter and Christmas and for her “egg money,” she sold her craft items, such as her monkey puppets. Norma was also an employee for the Avra Valley Fire Department in the early 1980’s. Norma enjoyed her retirement with her lady friends at her apartment complex playing poker on Friday afternoons.
Norma is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Joe and her Granddaughter, April Tulloh. She is survived by her brother, Charles (Deanna) Searles, daughters, Margarita (Edward) Lane and Charlene Weeks (Jim Edwards). She had six grandchildren: Matthew (Gaby) Tulloh, Julio (Amber) SantaCruz, Amanda (Jonathon) Parker, Vanessa Mere, Austen Lane, and Casey Edwards. She has six great-grandchildren.
Norma will be missed by her family and friends, we know that Norma was always looking forward to the Lord’s return, however, her presence was requested at the Lords banquet table much sooner. As Norma’s caregivers, her daughter, Margarita and grand-daughter, Vanessa would like to thank her doctors, Dr. Lee Goldberg, David Whitman, and Suzanna Livingston for the care that was provided to Norma over the years. We would like to thank the love that Emblem Hospice and Kiko’s Cottage showed Norma during her final days. Each of you provided Norma with amazing quality of care, we thank you for that.
Norma’s memorial service is scheduled for the spring. Her service will be held at Tucson First Brethren Church, 201 North Columbus Blvd. Tucson, Arizona, 85711. Once a date has been decided upon, a formal obituary will be published in the Arizona Daily Star.
