Paul N. Hannan passed away July 3, 2026, at his home in Tucson. He was born August 16, 1952, in Virginia. In the '60s, his family moved first to New Mexico and then to Bisbee, AZ, where he graduated from high school, later attending the University of Arizona. Different phases of his life took him in a number of directions: a memorable scout troop trip to Central America at age 13; seasonal work at Yosemite in his early 20s; sales of solar water heaters for Cornell Energy in Tucson in the 1980s; work with United Cities Gas Co. and Coalfield Services in the 1990s in southwest Virginia, where he was also active in supporting the Wytheville Chautauqua arts festival. He moved to Iowa in 2006 after reconnecting with Laurel Foreman, whom he had known in his Tucson days. In Des Moines, he held one of his favorite jobs as a vendor for the minor league Iowa Cubs. Paul and Laurel married in 2008 and retired to Tucson in 2019.
Paul enjoyed cooking and trying different foods. He was a history and geography buff and could tell great stories about the Southwest, Arizona, and their historical characters. He loved to read crime novels and nonfiction, preferably with a cat on his lap. He also enjoyed water aerobics, visits from his step-grandchildren, and travel with Laurel to enjoy cool climates and observe wildlife.
Paul was predeceased by his parents, William and Nancy Hannan. He is survived by his wife, Laurel, of Tucson; sisters Elizabeth Cree of Tempe and Barbara Hannan of Chandler; niece Hannah Cree of Tucson; stepdaughter Jillane Johnson, husband Marshall, and their daughters Evelyn and Charlotte, of Kansas City, KS; and brothers Patrick McReynolds of Tucson and Michael McReynolds of California.
A gathering of Paul's family and friends is planned for later this year.
