Bill is traveling onward to his next adventure. Born in Springfield, MA and raised in East Hartland, CT on a farm his best friends were animals. This made him shy when he started school. His parents, William D. Shew and Phylis E. Smith divorced when he was 13. Bill struggled in Avon Public High School so his dad enrolled him in the esteemed prep school, Avon Old Farms. Bill always fondly said that AOF and Headmaster Don Pierpont saved his life! While in business college at Stetson, in FL, his cousin, John, who was majoring in architecture at the U of A called and told Bill he must get to Tucson. “It’s warm here and the women are scantily clad!” Needless to say, Bill graduated from the U of A in 1972 with a B.A. in psychology and two minors; English and Sociology. In May of 1972 Bill met Cathy Warner, his wife. Together they owned and operated 4 successful businesses in Tucson; Cathy’s Cafe (1983), Chicago Bar (1984-1988), Coffee Pot Cafe (1984-1994) and Boondocks Lounge (1996-2016). Bill had many interests including his dogs, hiking, exploring AZ, NM and Route 66. He was an avid car buff, motorcyclist, snow skier, roller blader, jogger, and cyclist. This entrepreneur was an exceptional learner and hard worker who always wanted to be ‘under the radar’ he excelled at his desired position. This devastating loss is felt by his wife of 54 years, Cathy Warner, son, Jacob Warner (Aunjali), granddaughter, Joanna (Aaron), great granddaughter, Mika Lynn, a myriad of sister and brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews, his dear cousin, John Gabb (Lorian), long time buddy, Bruce Dailey (Gwen), and numerous pals (you all know who you are). In today's climate Bill would ask you to love and respect each other. The family warmly thanks Casa De La Luz Hospice for their gentle care. There will be a private family event Sun. OCT. 4th. However, all are welcome to a musical celebration hosted by Bad News Blues on Fri. OCT. 16, 2026 at The Hut on 4th Ave from 5-8pm.
