Raisa Sporn, M.D. of Tucson, Arizona died on January 14, 2021. She had just turned 90. Dr. Sporn was born in Russia on January 10, 1931. While attending medical school in St. Petersburg (Leningrad), she met and fell in love with Alfred Sporn, M.D. She moved to Bucharest, Romania after they married. She started her medical career and began her family there.
In 1973 the family was fortunate to be able to leave Romania and emigrate to the United States. Dr. Sporn continued her career as a pathologist in New York City where she worked until she retired from Beth Israel Medical Center in 1991. Retiring allowed her to pursue what gave her the greatest pleasure in life, spending time with her three grandchildren, Benjamin, Tanya, and Rebecca Ganellen.
Dr. Sporn is predeceased by her husband, Alfred. She is survived by her daughter, Natalia Pascal (Ronald Ganellen), her son, Steven, and her grandchildren
