Keeping the lost and their loved ones in prayer.

Ray was one of the first drivers I met at Tucson Transit (Sun Tran) back in the mid 70s and was very surprised when he came home from work one day and saw me standing in his kitchen...I'd just rented the house next door from his in-laws on Fairgrounds.  Always a gentleman and great guy to work with.  I'm so sorry for your loss and may knowing that he's now at peace will help the healing process.

Today I will say my final goodbye to my Brother Staff Sgt Raymond Gutierrez.  When I was a teenager, I would spend my summers with my sister (Norma) and her husband Ray at Camp Pendleton, CA.  It was those years and through Ray that I truly developed a love for this country.  The Marine Corps took the young Ray Gutierrez and taught him the true value of Duty, Honor, and love for these United States of America.  I believe Ray's greater love for this country came to him upon completion of his tours to Vietnam.  Working in a third world country has its way of doing that to a person.  When we would be working on the cars in his backyard, Ray would always tell me that he'd wish I would follow his footsteps in the Marine Corps.  I enlisted in the Navy in the early 80's, and I remember Ray's disappointment and joy on his face when I told him.  Disappointment because I did not become a Martine, but joy that I would be following his footsteps in serving this great country he loved so much.  It was two men in my life that helped me to make the decision to make the Navy a career, my father and Ray.  My father pasted away before I retired, but the love and respect I received from Ray made up for it tenfold.  I always knew that I could not have made a career for myself if not for the sacrifices like my father and Ray gave before me.  So today, I wish you "Fair Winds and Following Seas" my Brother.  The beaches are clear and ready for you to turn it over to your relief.  Time for you to go home for some well deserved R&R.  Semper Fi!
