

Richard was born in Los Angeles California on November 14th 1946. He and his family then moved to Tucson Arizona in 1960 and later graduated from Amphitheatre High School in 1966. Richard excelled at carpentry in school and built several furniture pieces that his family cherishes to this day.
At the age of 22, Richard began working at the Pacific Fruit Express (PFE) as a Railroad journeyman. During this time he also served in the United States Army Reserve from 1966 to 1972.
Richard later served as a Railroad Carman journeyman and enjoyed his work as a Union Representative. He always shared fond memories of working with the Railroad brotherhood. He ultimately retired from the Union Pacific Railroad after 37 years.
While attending the Spanish Assembly of God Richard met his wife Mary Morales Lopez. They married in June of 1970 in a double wedding alongside Richard’s brother Frank and Mary’s sister Connie. Richard and Mary spent many years in church ministry serving as youth pastors in several churches throughout Tucson. In June of 2021, they celebrated 51 years of marriage.
Richard is survived by his loving wife Mary, daughters Catherine Lopez, Celina L Zamora and Grandsons Elijah Lopez and José Zamora III. Brothers Frank (Connie), John (Lucy), Paul and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Socorro A Lopez and José E Lopez.

Visitation and funeral service will be held on July 27th, 2021 at South Lawn Mortuary & Cemetery, 5401 S. Park Avenue. A celebration of Richard’s life and luncheon will be held immediately following the burial service, information will be given at a later date.
