Robert Garcia Duran

June 27, 1959 – August 9, 2026

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Robert G. Duran, age 67, of Tucson, Arizona. Robert passed away on August 9, 2026, at the VA Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.

A Life Well Lived

Robert was born on June 27, 1959, in Tucson, Arizona, to Francisco and Lydia Duran. He was raised in Tucson, where he attended Sunnyside High School. He later continued his education at the University of Arizona and the University of Phoenix.

Throughout his life, Robert was known for his deep faith, wonderful sense of humor, kindness, generosity, strength, and unwavering dedication to his family.

Robert honorably served his country as a United States Marine from 1977 to 1981. His time in the Marine Corps reflected the sense of duty, commitment, and service to others that remained an important part of who he was throughout his life.

Shortly after his military service, Robert met the love of his life, Norma. Their connection was immediate, and within three months they were married. Together, they built a life centered on love, family, and faith.

Robert went on to dedicate 36 years of his career to Raytheon, where he worked as an engineer supporting the mission of protecting the warfighter. He approached his work with the same dedication and sense of responsibility that characterized so much of his life. For Robert, his career was not about recognition or personal accomplishment, but about doing meaningful work, providing for his family, and contributing to something greater than himself.

Following his retirement, Robert spent nine wonderful years enjoying what mattered most to him—his family. Retirement gave him more time to travel, enjoy family gatherings, watch his grandchildren grow, and appreciate the simple, everyday moments he shared with those he loved.

Family

Above all else, Robert cherished his family.

He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and beloved brother. Some of his greatest joys came from spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren, whether traveling together, gathering as a family, celebrating milestones, or simply enjoying one another’s company.

Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Norma Duran; his daughter, Paulina Martinez, and her husband, David Martinez; his son, Robert Duran, and his wife, Johanna Duran; and his son, Daniel Duran, and his husband, Charles Duran.

Robert was also the proud grandfather of six grandchildren: Robert Duran, Audrina Martinez, Bianca Duran, Isaac Duran, Sophia Martinez, and Noah Duran. His grandchildren brought tremendous happiness to his life, and he treasured the time he spent with each of them.

He is also survived by his siblings, Frank Duran, Ralph Duran, and Juanita.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Francisco and Lydia Duran, and his brother, David Duran.

The Man We Will Remember

Robert found happiness in both the meaningful and simple moments of life. He especially loved playing chess and board games with his grandchildren, watching movies and television shows, making pancakes, helping anyone who was in need, and spending time with his wife.

Those who knew Robert will especially remember his humor and his laughter. He loved telling stories and jokes and had a gift for making the people around him laugh. His warmth and personality could bring joy to a room, and those memories will remain with his family and friends for years to come.

Yet, of all Robert’s accomplishments, the one he valued most was sharing his faith with his wife and children.

Robert wanted more than anything for his family to know Jesus Christ personally and to build their lives upon their faith. Through his example, his guidance, and the way he lived his own life, he helped establish a legacy of faith that will continue through his children and grandchildren.

He leaves behind a family united not only by their love for him, but also by their faith and commitment to God. This may be Robert’s greatest legacy: a family that knows the Lord, loves one another, and will carry his faith forward for generations to come.

A Funeral Service will take place at Funeraria del Angel South Lawn, 5401 South Park Ave, Tucson, AZ 85706, US, on August 26, 2026, from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm, and a Funeral Service will also be held there on August 27, 2026, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am.

A Graveside Service with Military Honors will follow at South Lawn Cemetery, 5401 S Park Ave, Tucson, AZ 85706, US, on August 27, 2026, from 10:30 am to 11:00 am.
