Sadie Marie (Boaz) Carpenter went to be with the Lord peacefully on November 28th at her home in Tucson, AZ. Born June 24, 1939, outside of Topeka, Kansas, Sadie was the 5th of 6 children of Clarence and Marian Boaz. Sadie grew up helping on the family farm and taking care of her little sister. She was a devoted member of First Southern Baptist Church in Topeka, KS where she sang in the choir. Her strong faith was prominent throughout her life.
In 1958, she graduated from Highland Park High School. She went on to Washburn University and subsequently graduated from Oklahoma College for Women with a degree in Home Economics. She married Walter Rome and had two children, Brenda, and Brian, and spent over 20 years teaching elementary education.
She later transitioned to a career in sales where she had natural talent. Sadie married Fred Carpenter in 2001, and they were married until his passing in 2016.
A truly gifted seamstress (aka the sewing savant), Sadie delighted her family with custom-made gifts of clothing, pillows, curtains, and anything requested of her. She even hand-sewed her daughter’s wedding dress and all four bridesmaid dresses.
Sadie loved to travel and went on many family girls’ trips after retiring to Tucson. She also loved to road trip with her daughter back to Kansas to see her granddaughter and great-granddaughter and to visit with friends and family.
Sadie had a huge heart and always opened her home to anyone in need. She is survived by her partner Les, brother Don, sister June (John), daughter Brenda (Garry), son Brian (Tammy), grandchildren Jennifer and Andrew, great-granddaughter Serenity, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial is planned for Tuesday, December 12 at 11am at El Camino Baptist Church, 7777 Speedway, Tucson, AZ. To leave a special message for the family, please visit www.dignitymemorial.com.
