Sandra Ann Meek

Sandra was born on January 28, 1947, and raised in southern Arizona. She was the daughter of Ruth Sweat and Johnny James Wells and was later raised by her stepfather, Kermit Lee. From an early age, Sandra was surrounded by family, hard work, and the unique people and communities of southern Arizona. Those experiences helped shape her lifelong love for the region and its history.

Even as a young girl, Sandra had a competitive spirit and a love for sports. During her school years, she played volleyball and, in 1960, was the high scorer for the Casa Grande Junior High School team. In high school, Sandra excelled at tennis and became a standout player. In 1964, her team captured the Class A Division 1 championship. The following year, Sandra Lee and Ann A’Lee Bedillon won the 1965 Girls’ Tennis Doubles Class AA State Championship. Her accomplishments in athletics reflected the determination, independence, and competitive spirit that would remain a part of Sandra throughout her life.

Sandra met the love of her life, Jack W. Meek, and the two were married on April 9, 1966, in a small ceremony in Winterhaven, California. Together, Sandra and Jack shared a life filled with family, work, community, and adventure. Among their many ventures, they owned and operated a laundromat, and Sandra proudly supported Jack throughout his years of involvement with the Elks, including his service as an Exalted Ruler.

Sandra had plenty of adventures of her own. She spent many years participating in local bowling leagues and traveled throughout Arizona and across the country for competitions. Her love of bowling took her well beyond the local lanes, and she competed in more than 25 national bowling tournaments. She treasured the friendships, competition, travel, and memories that came with those years.

Sandra worked for many years as an office manager for Pretzer Farms, where she enjoyed being part of the agricultural community. She took pride in her work and valued the people and relationships she formed along the way.

Sandra also had a deep love for southern Arizona and its history. She became a historian of Pinal County and devoted much of her life to preserving and remembering the stories, people, and heritage of the area she loved. Her knowledge of and appreciation for local history were an important part of who she was.

Sandra had a wonderful sense of adventure and enjoyed many trips to the casino, where she loved the excitement and fun of trying her luck. Of course, when it came to exactly how much she spent, the family could never seem to get a straight answer. That mystery was simply part of the adventure. Sandra also had a genuine love for Mexican food and was always happy to enjoy a good meal along the way.

Sandra was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack W. Meek, who passed away on December 5, 2013; her father, Johnny James Wells; her stepfather, Kermit Lee; her mother, Ruth Lee; and her brother, Roy D. Lee.

She is survived by her stepson, Timothy Meek of Tucson, Arizona, and his wife, Kelly; her grandchildren, Lori, Ryan, and Kyrene; and her great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her nephew, Michael Lee of Belfield, North Dakota, his wife, Erica, and their children, Theron Lee and Tyler Bullinger; and her great-great-niece, Octavia, daughter of Tyler.

Sandra is also survived by her niece, Amelia Moynihan of Layton, Utah, her husband, Sean, and their children, Alanah, Jasper, and Rowan, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who loved her dearly.

Sandra will be remembered for her independent spirit, adventurous heart, love of family, passion for southern Arizona, and appreciation for the stories and history that made the region special. She lived a life filled with family, friendship, hard work, sports, bowling, travel, casinos, good Mexican food, and countless memories.

And while her family may never know exactly how much she spent at the casino, they will always know exactly how much she was loved.

Sandra will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever remain a part of the stories, laughter, and memories her family continues to share.

Services for Sandra will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Funeraria del Angel South Lawn, 5401 S. Park Avenue, Tucson, Arizona.

Burial services will immediately follow.
