A typical "native" Tucsonian, Sandra Rogers was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on September 1, 1948. Her parents were Violet and Harland Rogers. Shortly after her birth, they returned to Tucson where her parents built and operated the Hi-Way Motel in Tucson. After graduation from Sunnyside High School, Sandra enrolled at the University of Arizona to become a business teacher. She graduated in 1970 with a bachelor's degree in business education and received a master's degree in 1971. She then worked as a substitute teacher for District I and Pima Community College. In 1972, she began working at the UofA College of Pharmacy as a secretary to the dean. Through the years as the college grew, her responsibilities grew and she became the administrative associate to the dean, working with four deans. In 1991, she became the coordinator of student services for approximately 220 pharmacy students. In this capacity, she coordinates all student advising, maintains student records, notifys scholarship recipients and organizes the graduation convocation. Perhaps one of her most challenging duties is organizing the semiannual trip to Eli Lilly and Company in which she travels with the pharmacy students while they tour. Through her 25 years at the College of Pharmacy, she has survived many transitions, including moving the College into a new building, redesigning office suites, and working with four deans with very different personalities. In 1973, Sandra attended a management conference which was coordinated by Ruth Shuping and cosponsored by UofA BPW and the State of Arizona. Intrigued by what she had learned and somewhat afraid to say "no" to the Provost's secretary, Sandra joined Tucson BPW and soon became one of its most active members in 1973. Committee chairmanships soon led to officer positions. Her love of meetings and conventions is demonstrated by the fact that she has attended 16 national conventions, serving as a delegate to 10. Sandra became the chairman of the Women's Management Conference for the next five years. She served as president of Tucson BPW from 1981-83, and became active at the state level, starting as a District director and ending as state president in 1990-91. Sandra has also served as the chair of the Memorial Loan Fund, nominating committee, foundation, issues management and state convention (two times). At the national level, Sandra served on the election's committee and time keeper's committee. Sandra served as a trustee on the Arizona BPW Foundation from its inception in 1989 until May 1997. She was secretary and financial aid chair. Other organizations in which Sandra is active are the Arizona Genealogical Society and the Mission Ostomy Chapter of Tucson. Her dedication to BPW, however does not interfere with her "real" love - University plays and Wildcat football games. In fact, a UofA football game is the only thing that would take precedence over a BPW meeting. An unassuming woman with an immense capacity for hard work, Sandra Rogers has played a vital role at the local, state, and national level of BPW.
