Sarah Irene Hohlenkamp was born on August 1, 1938 in Jackson, Mississippi, to Charles and Marie Boehle. She had two older sisters, Ruth Elaine and Nancy Carol. In 1950 Sarah's parents moved to Tucson for her dad's health. She graduated from Tucson High in 1956 and began dating Dennis soon after. They were married on December 29, 1956 and would be celebrating their 59th wedding anniversary this year. Sarah was blessed with four children; Carolyn June, Sandra Lynn, Steven Dennis, and Cheryl Leigh. She also has ten grandchildren.
While the children were young, Sarah was a stay-at-home mom. She started working as a secretary at the Tucson Clinic in 1969 and later for Dennis' business. Sarah ultimately retired from Tucson Medical Center in December of 2003. Being a very compassionate person who loved helping others, it wasn’t a surprise when Sarah returned to Tucson Medical Center volunteering as a Patient Care Advocate in the hospital and at Peppi’s House, which she did until June of this year. For recreation, Sarah and Dennis bought a vacation home in Mexico close to the beach and have been enjoying it for over 40 years. Sarah loved the boats they had, catching fish, and relaxing on the porch that overlooks the bay with a cup of coffee in the morning.
Sarah accepted Christ as her Savior at New Testament Baptist Church and has been a member there since 1967. Over the years she has been involved in several ministries including playing the piano at Fellowship Baptist.
"I have been so blessed over the years and there is much for which to be thankful. The Lord has been so good to me and my family. I just want to thank Him for my salvation and His love for me." Sarah Hohlenkamp
