Born on July 15, 1970, in Chicago, Illinois, to Gerald and Sallie Bitner, Stephanie moved to Tucson with her family shortly after her birth. It was there that she grew up and raised her two boys.
Stephanie dedicated much of her career to caring for others as a registered nurse — a calling that reflected her compassionate spirit and her natural instinct to show up for people in their most vulnerable moments. When she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in her thirties, that same strength she had offered so many patients was turned inward. MS brought profound challenges to both her physical and mental health, but rather than retreat, Stephanie chose to speak openly and honestly about the realities of living with the disease. She became a steadfast advocate for those who share the diagnosis, giving voice to a struggle that too often goes unseen and unheard.
Stephanie found great joy in traveling to the mountains, especially spending time in the White Mountains, where she could escape the desert heat and relax with her husband and cherished dog, Luna. Whether she was scouring thrift stores for her next antique to refinish or losing track of time in the garden, Stephanie was happiest with dirt on her hands and a project to love. She had a remarkable green thumb, and her garden was filled with vibrant, thriving succulents—a reflection of the care and attention she gave to all living things.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Gage Bradley Walker, and her father, Gerald R. Bitner—losses that profoundly shaped her life.
Stephanie is survived by her loving husband and best friend, Erik M. Nolan; son, Jagger Dean Bitner; grandson, Aidan Paul Dean Bitner; mother, Sallie K. Bitner; brother, Jonathan P. Bitner; sister Amie K. Gazda; brother-in-law, Tom Gazda; brother-in-law, Keir Nolan of P.A., stepchildren; Patrick, Pia, and Julia Nolan of Germany.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026, at 3:00 PM at East Lawn Palms Funeral Home, 5801 E. Grant Road, Tucson, Arizona. All who knew and loved Stephanie are warmly invited to attend and celebrate her life.
