Stephen Oakes was a cherished son, brother, uncle, and friend. He loved all music- especially heavy metal- and spent every waking moment enjoying life with his friends skiing and camping. The kitchen was also one of his favorite hangouts, as Steve loved to cook!
A skiing accident in 1996 changed the way he lived, yet he continued to enjoy music and being around his loved ones. Steve’s spunkiness remained the same as evidenced by him providing a thumbs up or middle finger- depending on his perspective of a situation! Stephen’s nephew, Tyler Oakes, is proud to state his uncle never flipped him off -- not even once -- in eighteen years! The huge smile on Steve’s face when he first saw Tyler as a baby should have been a clue Tyler would always be in good standing with his uncle.
The bond between Steve and his big brother Bill was unbreakable. Bill faithfully took care of Steve all these years. Just shy of two months after Bill’s passing, it appears as though Stephen chose to join him so they would not be apart any longer. Bill’s sister-in-law, brother-in-law, and life-long friend Chrissy were with Steve as he passed. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Kay Oakes, and his brother William “Billy” Oakes.
