Susan Condos’ kind, loving, and joyous spirit moved peacefully from this earth on February 1, 2023. After a long battle with cancer in which she endured and fought bravely, her final days were spent in the comfort of home surrounded by family and friends, and with frequent visits to her bedside window by her beloved hummingbirds and finches.
Born in 1947 in Chicago, Illinois to Peter Arestis and Lillian (Lou) Bankson, she grew up in Tucson, Arizona and graduated from Rincon High School. She met her husband, Chuck Condos, at St. Demetrius Greek Orthodox Church where they fell in love and married. The couple lived in various places while Chuck was in the Navy, and settled in Garland, Texas to raise their three children.
Together, Susan and Chuck built a loving and committed marriage that served as a strong foundation on which their family thrived. To her children she gave unconditional love and was an endless source of acceptance and encouragement. To her mother she was a loving and devoted daughter, and to her siblings she was a loyal sister, friend, and confidante.
Susan had a kind and vivacious spirit and was gifted in seeing the best in everyone, delighted in welcoming new people into her life, was always the first to forgive, was a fierce champion for all who knew her, and a trusted confidant who was never quick to judge. Driven by her optimistic nature, she chose to dedicate her energy towards hope rather than cynicism. She was intelligent and witty, quick with a word of kindness or encouragement, a voracious reader, a talented soprano, an immaculate dresser, and a lover of travel; but mostly she cherished spending time with her family and friends. A true social butterfly, she was known for being the person who brought others together, and loved hosting gatherings. In so many ways, she was an anchor for her family and social circles.
Professionally she wore many hats during her life, with her favorite being an assistant primary school teacher. Devoted in her faith, she was an active member of Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church and adored singing with the church choir.
Susan was predeceased by her father, Peter Arestis, and survived by her husband, Chuck Condos, her children, Tom (Cindy) Condos, William (Daphne) Condos, and Susie (Tim) Condos-Mills, her mother Lillian (Lou) Bankson, her siblings Joanne (Jorge) Alvarez, Patty (Scott) Anderson, and Dean (Diane) Gekas, her grandchildren Alex Condos, Chandler Condos, Tia Mills, and Ethan Mills, her great grandson Kamden Condos, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Her laughter, smile, and kind heart will be forever missed.
Visitation will be on Sunday, February 12 at Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church (5910 E 5th St, Tucson, AZ 85712) From 5:00 – 7:00pm with Trisagion Prayers read at 6:00pm. The Funeral Service will also take place at Holy Resurrection on Monday, February 13, at 10:00am, with the Burial Service to follow at East Lawn Cemetery.
