Suthipan “Smitty” Smitthipong, born January 19, 1945, went to meet the Lord on the evening of December 30, 2016. Born one of nine children in Bangkok, Thailand, Smitty came to the United States in 1964 to study architecture at the University of Kansas, where he met his wife of 46 years, Midge. Smitty’s lifelong career as an architect took him from Kansas to Houston, where his children, Aaron and Annie, were born, and then to Tucson, where he eventually was able to launch his own business and lived for almost 30 years. Upon retirement, Smitty embraced his passion for the outdoors, walking regularly in Sabino Canyon and volunteering at the park to educate youngsters. A man of deep faith, Smitty accepted Jesus into his life in 1988, and was active in church until his passing. Smitty leaves behind his wife, children, three grandchildren and five of his eight siblings.
Smitty’s life will be honored in a Memorial Service, Saturday, January 28th, 2017 at Rincon Mountain Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m.
