

Thomas Henry Greco, Jr., 89, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away suddenly on June 15, 2026. Born on October 9, 1936, in Rochester, New York, Tom was a man of immense integrity, intellect, and warmth. He was known by all who knew him for his profound knowledge of economics, history, natural health remedies, and many other topics. For over 40 years, Tucson was his home, where he built a vibrant community of deeply cherished friends. He also enjoyed gardening and playing bridge with various friend groups.
Tom’s impressive academic foundation began with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Villanova University, followed by an MBA from the University of Rochester. He also completed a year of doctoral study in Management and Instructional Technology at Syracuse University. His versatile professional career spanned five years as an aerospace engineer and 14 years in academia, where he held a tenured faculty position at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
Tom was a visionary author, educator, and community economist. He spent more than four decades working at the leading edge of transformational monetary reform. He was globally recognized as a leading authority on monetary theory, moneyless exchange systems, community currencies, and financial innovation. As an internationally sought-after speaker, Tom traveled extensively across Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Americas to lecture, teach, and advise. He dedicated his life's work to transcending interest-based debt money systems, passionately empowering small businesses and local communities to create honest, "home-grown" means of payment.
Tom’s legacy lives on through his loving family. He is survived by his son, Paul Greco, and daughter-in-law, Alison; his three beloved grandchildren, Emily Sivick (Blake), Paul David Greco, and Matthew Greco; and his cherished great-grandson, Hunter Sivick. He also leaves behind his devoted nieces, Andrea Hadley and Corrine Jadike-Hebert, and his nephew, Jeff Jadike. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Thomas Andrew Greco, and his sister, Marylil Jadike.
A celebration of Tom's extraordinary life will be held in Tucson, Arizona, at a date and time to be determined.
