Timothy Ray Benedict, age 55, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, in his sleep on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at his home in Tucson, Arizona. He was always ready with a smile or a word of encouragement for anyone he came into contact with.
Tim was born on January 2, 1962, the first baby born that year at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tucson, Arizona. He accepted Christ as his Savior as a young child and lived his life trying to encourage others as Christ would have him do. After graduation from Tucson High School, he spent many years working with teens as a high school teacher, running an after-school program for underprivileged youth, and working with the youth group at his church. He spent many years “tinkering” on anything that could be tinkered with, from cash registers and copy machines to computers.
Tim chose to love. Even when those around him were cross or hurtful, stubborn or angry, unkind or just “unlovely,” he chose to love. He didn’t let others bring him down. He loved life. He loved to make others smile and laugh. He loved fixing anything that needed fixing, or helping anyone in need of his help. He was here to serve others. In spite of having had asthma since he was little or the recent health issues that had come his way, he was always ready to uplift those around him. He was always asking after others, “How is she?” or “Did he get his surgery scheduled yet?” or “How is her new job going?” Knowing now that he is no longer struggling to breathe, or having knee pain, knowing that he is celebrating with Jesus, helps make the pain of losing him bearable.
Tim is survived by his daughter, Sarah; his wife, Wendi Miller; his father, Thomas Benedict; his brother, Charles (Luann) Benedict; his stepchildren, Stefano (Brittany) Miller, Reid (Nicole) Miller, Quentin Miller, Joshua Peterson, Logan Peterson, Moira Miller; and his nephew, John Benedict; his father-in-love, Bob Miller. He was so very excited that he was about to be a grandfather to Barrett Miller. He will be missed and remembered fondly by many, many lives that he impacted throughout the years.
A celebration of his life will be held at New Testament Baptist Church at 2855 N. Craycroft Road, Tucson, Arizona on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at 4pm. We will have a service to commemorate his life, followed by a time to visit and share stories about Tim afterwards.
Arrangements under the direction of East Lawn Palms Mortuary, Tucson, AZ.
