Timothy Hurley Shell went to be with his heavenly Father on Sunday, March 5, 2017 following a 45 year battle with Multiple Sclerosis and 3 year battle with cancer. Tim was born on May 8, 1940 to Patrick & Dorothy Hurley in Warren, MI. Tim was later adopted by his stepfather, Ray Shell. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jeannette, and 2 children - Thomas/Cindi Shell & Teresa/Chuck Campbell. He has 4 adored grandsons, Richie, Jacob, Andrew & Abraham. Tim has 2 brothers, Fred/Debbie Shell of St. Albans, VT and Patrick/Deborah Shell of Independence, VA. He has one surviving aunt in Michigan and many cousins, nieces & nephews.
For 25 years Tim owned and operated the Angler Rod Company in St. Clair, MI. He was co-founder of the Blue Water Sport Fishing Association and an original board member of the Lake St. Clair Advisory Committee to help protect the Lake St. Clair wetlands. When he had spare time Tim was either fishing, enjoying his family or working in the church. He volunteered at a soup kitchen in Port Huron, MI. Tim served as an elder in his Michigan church as well as youth program participant and teacher.
After an 18 year struggle with MS, Tim sold his business and retired to Arizona where he had originally met Jeannette. He immediately involved himself in God’s work through the Methodist church in leading Bible studies and operating the homeless program “Operation Deep Freeze” for several years at the church. He and his oldest grandson, Richie, slept at the church with the homeless guys. In the early 90’s Tim and Jeannette found their permanent home at Pantano Christian Church. He helped in Kids Church for a time and with calling programs for shut-ins, was involved in various committees, did nursing home visitations with his wife for several years & they have held a monthly Bible study and lunch in their home for the past 20 years.
The family wishes to thank the workers of TMC Hospice Care for showing such loving kindness and caring for Tim.
