

Victoria Veronica Vitek Somers was born June 7, 1925, in a farmhouse near Fowler, Michigan, to her parents Paul and Anna Vitek. The fourth of five children, Victoria worked on the farm, learned FFA skills and attended local schools, graduating from Fowler High School in 1943. She and her future husband, Leo Somers of nearby Maple Rapids, Michigan, began a courtship and during WWII they wrote hundreds of letters to each other. Victoria and Leo married September 30, 1944, and after moving around the country while he was in the USAF Reserves, settled in Tucson in 1959.
Victoria is predeceased by her parents, her husband Leo, her son John Somers, her daughter Melanie Somers, and her grandchild Paul White. She is also predeceased by her sibling John Vitek. She is also predeceased by her other siblings and their spouses, Alex (Bernita) Vitek, Elizabeth (Norman) Blakeley, Frances (Charles) Fox and Margaret "Peggy" (Norman) Schumaker, all of Michigan. She is survived by her children Marti Leonard (Mark), Mark Somers, Matthew Somers, and Victor Somers, as well as by many grandchildren, nephews and nieces, great nephews and nieces and even a great, great grandson.
Victoria enjoyed raising her children and sewing. She had a wonderful sense of design and fashion and listened to classical music. She enjoyed the simple, beautiful things of life like sunsets, sunrises and flowers, especially roses. Victoria passed on May 28, 2026 at the age of 100. A private funeral service was held at Holy Hope Cemetery Mausoleum, 3555 N Oracle Rd, Tucson, Arizona, on June 9, 2026. She was interred near her husband at Holy Hope Mausoleum.
