Wilbur Nimmons Jr.

Wilbur grew up in New York City, completed his education, and went on to serve in the Air Force. In 1983, he welcomed his daughter, Charmaine, a relationship that remained central to his life and purpose.

After retiring from the Air Force, Wilbur continued a long and steady working life with Sun Tran Transit, where he served for 31 years. Through decades of early mornings and long routes, he was known for the kind of reliability that earns trust, the honesty that invites respect, and a quiet courage that shows itself in simply showing up—day after day—for the people who depend on you. His sense of humor, too, was part of what made him so beloved, offering lightness and ease in the ordinary moments that often matter most.

Wilbur’s care for others extended beyond the job description. He became a mentor to many young passengers who frequently rode the bus, offering guidance with the straightforward sincerity of someone who believed in doing right by people and helping them find their footing.

Outside of work, Wilbur enjoyed traveling, taking part in the nightlife, and sharing time with others over barbecues—simple pleasures made meaningful by his presence and the warmth he brought to gatherings.

Charmaine is grateful for the life skills her father passed down to her. He taught her auto mechanics, impressed upon her the value of hard work, and helped shape her into a responsible person. He also made sure she knew how to defend herself—lessons given with love, and with the steady intention of preparing her for life with confidence.

A Committal Service will be held at Arizona Veterans' Memorial Cemetery at Marana, 15950 N Luckett Rd, Marana, AZ 85653, on November 27, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm.

Wilbur will be remembered with respect and affection—as a devoted father, a man of honest character, a hardworking presence in his community, and someone whose bravery and humor left an enduring mark on those who knew him.
