Betty Lou Bombardier

Born on March 21, 1945 in Vancouver, WA to Gladys (Bloomquist) and Eino Mattila. Betty grew up on a farm in Hockinson, WA and graduated from Battle Ground High School in 1963, and then graduated from Clark College where she received her nursing degree and became a Registered Nurse.

In 1967, Betty married her husband Bill in Hockinson, WA, and later in 1976, the family moved to Littlerock, WA.

Betty dedicated her life to caring for others. She spent her career as a compassionate nurse mostly at St. Peters Hospital, Olympia, WA where she worked in the Labor & Delivery and Mother/Baby units until her retirement in 2006.

Outside of her career, her absolute greatest joy was her family. Betty was a remarkably warm presence who loved gardening, cooking delicious meals for her loved ones, camping, canoeing and traveling with her husband to explore new places, Hawaii, Tahiti, Alaska, Canada, Europe and most of all visit her boys, daughter-law and grandson.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, Bill Bombardier who stayed by her side to the end; her two loving children, Dan Bombardier and Brian Bombardier (Mary) and her cherished grandson, Kyle Bombardier; her dear sister, Linda Groom. She is preceded in death by her mother Gladys, father Eino, and brother Ronald.

Her legacy of care, warmth, and love will live on forever in the hearts of those she touched.

The family requests that in lieu of gifts or flowers, donations be made to any Dementia or Alzheimer’s organization whose goal it is to eliminate these diseases.
