Carol was born on January 5, 1930 in Rapid City, South Dakota to her parents Earl and Hazel Prunty.
She graduated from South Dakota State University with a degree in Early Childhood Education and Home Economics. It was there that she met the love of her life, her husband Larry. They were married for 57 years. They moved to the Olympia area in 1964 where Carol taught for 23 years in the elementary schools of the Tumwater School District.
Carol is survived by her husband, Larry; two brothers, William Prunty and Robert Prunty; three children, Tom Engel, John Engel and Susan Engel; two loved daughter-in-laws, Kaye and Pam; and five grandchildren, Kyle, Tara, Mandy, Philip and Mary Kate.
Carol loved many things. She loved traveling and made many trips to Europe and around the country. She loved athletic games, particularly where her children were involved. She was a big Seahawk fan as well as a supporter of WAZZU - Go Cougs.
Her children remember Carol as a loving and vibrant person who was always there to support and nourish them through any situation. Her faith gave her strength which she passed on to others.
She found joy in every situation. She would always say "life was to short not to".
Her unwavering faith provided strength to her family. She took time to listen, they said, and provided wisdom which guided them safely into the next stages of their lives.
"Our Mom was the definition of what every kid would wish their mother to be", her children said. "She always exemplified a desire to help kids learn and that was shown in how she raised her own children".
She will be missed, but we are grateful that she is with her LORD and Savior.
A memorial service for Carol will be held on Tuesday, April 12 beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Mills and Mills Chapel in Tumwater.
Memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org.
