Christine Susan Alexander, beloved wife of Justice Gerry Alexander (Retired), passed away at St Peter Hospital on November 23, 2022. Christine, the first-born child of Gerald R. Broomfield and Theresé Theroux Broomfield, was bom in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on August 6, 1953. Christine's family moved frequently during her childhood years and, consequently, her early education was provided by various parochial schools in Edmonton. Calgary, and Vancouver B.C. area. Prior to Christine's senior year in high school, she transfer to a new public school in Coquitlam B.C., Centennial High School, from which she graduated.
After high school, Christine enrolled at the University of British Columbia where she obtained a degree in Fine Arts. Following college, Christine worked as a law librarian for several prominent Vancouver B.C. law firms.
On March 16, 1996, Christine married Washington Supreme Court Justice, Gerry Alexander and moved to Olympia Although she knew almost no one in Olympia at that time, she quickly made many good friends and became active in the community. Among the organizations she strongly supported were Community Youth Services (CYS), the Governor's Mansion Foundation, South Puget Sound Community College, and the Olympia Guild of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. During the past year, and up to her death, Christine served as President of the Olympia Hutch Guild and was justly proud of the fact that the Guild held a highly successful golf tournament this year at the Olympia Golf and Country Club. It netted approximately $140,000 for the wonderful work that is carried on by the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
Christine's favorite hobbies were travel and cooking, Fortunately, during the years Gerry served as Chief Justice of the Washington Supreme Court, they were able to travel to many places in the lower 48 states plus Hawaii, Alaska, and Puerto Rico in conjunction with Gerry's twice-yearly attendance at the National Conference of Chief Justices of the United States and US. Territories. On their own, Christine and Gerry visited numerous spots in Asia, North Africa, and Europe during their marriage. Paris was always Christine's favorite city and they visited it several times. The Paris visits allowed Christine to indulge her other hobby, cooking, when she attended several classes in Paris that featured French cuisine.
Although Christine was preceded in death by her parents, she is survived by a brother, Wayne Broomfield of Coquitlam B.C., as well as her sisters Tessa Arthur (Mick) of Hertfordshire, United Kingdom and Colleen Murphy (Gary) of Coquitlam B.C. In addition, she is remembered fondly by her step-children, Amy Meyer (Glenn) of Issaquah, Washington, Anna Meadowcroft (Dave) of Lakewood, Washington, and Andrew Alexander (Shawn) of Lansing, Michigan. Also mourning her passing are Gerry's brother (Ali), nine step-grandchildren, and four step-great grandchildren.
We wish to thank Christine's excellent physicians and the fine staff at St. Peter Hospital for the compassionate and professional attention they provided Christine in her final days.
