It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Curtis Earl Byre, born on January 6, 1969, in Olympia, Washington, to Charles Earl Byre and Cindy Thurston McBride. Curtis departed on October 22, 2023, at Swedish Hospital in Seattle, Washington.
Growing up on Johnson Point, Curtis attended South Bay Elementary, Chinook Middle School, Timberline High School, and North Thurston High School, where he excelled in soccer. Curtis would later tell captivating stories about his time following high school when he spent summers as a commercial fisherman in Alaska with his uncle, Don Thurston.
A devoted and proud Papa, Curtis cherished his role in the lives of Madeleine Rose Falcon and Kinsley Jean Madden, his adored granddaughters. He always delighted in fulfilling their wishes and spending time with them.
Not only an avid fisherman, he also loved going on hunting camp trips. He enjoyed laughter-filled moments with friends while planning the trips nearly as much as the trips themselves.
In 1997, Curtis commenced his career as a computer technician at the Department of Revenue, progressing through various roles and establishing enduring relationships within the department until his passing.
In 2022, Curtis, alongside Kayden, established JohnsonPoint Services, where they would do a multitude of jobs. He always enjoyed it when the work called for the use of an excavator or a skid steer; it was his favorite part.
His most recent passion began nearly two years ago when he acquired a Turbo Razor, a project he and Kayden meticulously customized according to his preferences, down to the choice of colors. Curtis always looked forward to his trips to Idaho, and enjoyed being responsible for the safety of everyone navigating rough trails as the back-end driver, and also relishing moments by the bonfire with cherished friends and family.
Curtis lived by a simple yet profound motto: "Work Hard and Play Harder." His spirit will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.
In his final act of generosity, Curtis, an organ donor, bestowed the gift of life upon several individuals as he made his journey to the other side.
Curtis is survived by his partner, Donnetta (Doni) Higson, Garrett Madden, Nicole Madden, Kayden (Tiffany) Ray, his son Cody Micheal Brock Byre, his mom Cindy Thurston (Robert) McBride, Grandmother Dorothy Thurston, uncle Donald (Stacy) Thurston, stepbrothers Brent (Ashley) McBride, Patrick (Emily) McBride, and Paul McBride, nieces: Jessie Bensley (Dylan), and Ryane (James) Meyer. Curtis had many cousins that he grew up with and he continued to stay close with. His father, Charles Earl Byre, preceded him in death in 1975.
There will be a private family burial at Olympic Memorial Garden Cemetery in Tumwater. Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life to be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 18, 2023, at the McBride Family Farm, 9616 Johnson Point Loop NE, Olympia.
