Darlene E. Adkins (Holling), 87 passed away peacefully Sunday, September 17th at Sequoia Assisted Living in Lacey WA where she had been a resident for the last 3 years. Darlene was born in Spokane WA to George and Verda Holling (Riley) and raised in Rosalia and Spokane WA. Darlene graduated from Lewis & Clark High School in 1948 and attended Eastern Washington College of Education and Kinman Business University.
She began her banking career at Fidelity Savings in Spokane and continued to work in the banking industry at various locations, including Capital Savings in Olympia until her retirement. Darlene met the love of her life, Doral Adkins and they were married in June, 1956. Forty-one happy years were spent with Doral, living in Olympia, traveling, enjoying their property and each other out at the bay.
Doral’s health eventually forced them to move into town and sell the bay property they’d owned since 1965. More than anything, Darlene was happiest when spending time with her family, and loved to spoil friends and relatives’ children, as they were all “her kids” too.
Darlene has been a member of Eastern Star, Rosalia/Malden Chapters for 50+years and volunteered countless hours for Salvation Army. In 2013 Darlene received Salvation Army’s Women’s Auxiliary Long Service Recognition Award.
Darlene is survived by her brother George R. “Dick” Holling (Birdie). Doral, her husband preceded her in death in 1997, as well as a dearly loved nephew, Darryl R. Holling in 2003.
A small, private graveside service is planned for Saturday, September 30th 11:00 AM Westminster Presbyterian 1925 Boulevard Rd SE Olympia WA 98501. In lieu of flowers, as a thank you for their excellent care of Darlene, please consider donating to Assured Hospice of Olympia

Those that touch our lives...stay in our hearts forever.
