She was born February 4, 1957, to Darroll E. and Sharon C. (Herrygers) Shue, in Muskegon, Michigan. Her early childhood years were spent in Germany, as her father was stationed there during part of his career in the U.S. Army. Upon return to the States, the Shue family settled in Lacey, WA. Darolyn received her diploma from North Thurston High School and took additional courses in Business and Accounting at South Puget Sound Community College.
Darolyn worked for the State of Washington for several agencies, including the Department of Financial Institutions and others, spanning over 20 years. In early adulthood, Darolyn intentionally took time off from work when her children were young to provide a fulfilling, education-rich experience for them during their formative years of development. She greatly valued education, ensuring that her children were supported in their post-secondary pursuits including successful completion of their baccalaureate degrees.
She enjoyed quilting, antiquing, road trips (some without an itinerary), beachcombing for rocks and shells, gardening, and generally to be outdoors.
Surviving Darolyn is her brother Peter Shue, sister Suzette Brown and her husband Kurt, children William “Willie” Painter (Nick Pangan) and Johanna Painter, stepson Joshua Painter, a niece and several nephews whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Darroll and Sharon, and her youngest brother Steven.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Ms. Shue’s life will begin on Sunday, October 9, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., at the Rose Garden in Squaxin Park (formerly Priest Point Park).
The family suggests memorial donations be made online to Rochester Organization of Families’ (R.O.O.F.) Food Bank or by mail at ROOF Community Services; PO Box 312; Rochester, WA 98579.
