Dean Walter Manberg died on Monday, September 14, 2020. He was born in the old St. Helen's Hospital in Chehalis on October 4, 1945 to Alvin Walter Manberg and Maxine Margit Manberg (Holmes). His father, a high climber, was transferred to Shelton, where he grew up. He graduated from Shelton High School in 1963.
Dean graduated from the University of Washington, after a 4-year stint in the U.S. Navy. As jobs were scarce during a recession, he worked whatever jobs he could. He worked at Bethlehem Steel and Anchor Packing in Seattle. When he was offered a job in the fluid power industry, he moved to Portland, where he worked for Sweetland Company; first, as an outdoor salesman, then an indoor salesman, and, finally as office manager. When the company was being sold, he took his profit sharing, moved back to Chehalis and got his Paralegal Certificate from Centralia Community College.
He was hired by the Washington State Attorney General's office as a paralegal and worked there for the Torts Division for 24 years before retiring in November 2012.
He was an avid golfer, having started playing at the age of 12; and a licensed private pilot--two of his passions. He was a member of the United States Golf Association (USGA), the Washington State Golf Association (WSGA), and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA).
He is survived by his wife, Jan; his step-son, Steve Williams; three grandsons, Austin, Thomas, and Nico; and three great-grandchildren, Annabelle, Rayne, and Wyatt. He is predeceased by his parents; his sister, Sandra Manberg; and his cousins, Gary Brossard, Brad Bartlett, and Diane Pinkerton.
