Dennis was born to Keith and Dorothy Gard on March 9, 1948, in Emmetsburg, Iowa. He moved with his family to Tumwater, Washington when he was a young child and graduated from Tumwater High School in 1966.
Dennis always demonstrated a strong drive to follow his aspirations and was an active participant in the Thurston County community. He bought his first restaurant, Southgate Big Tom Drive-In in 1972. He then founded Brewery City Pizza in 1982 which quickly became a beloved institution in the greater Olympia area. Through his businesses he sponsored several local sports teams and charitable foundations in the surrounding areas.
Dennis was a dedicated sports fan. Throughout his lifetime he played basketball and baseball, and also developed the hobby of running marathons. Recently he became an avid golfer. Otherwise, he could be spotted checking in at one of his three BCP locations, exercising at the Valley Athletic Club, tending to his rose garden, or at the ball game of his favorite sports team, The Seattle Mariners.
Dennis took great pride and joy in his businesses, his home, and his family.
Dennis is survived by his daughters Dannae Youngard (Tim) and Molly Woodstock, his sister Irene French (Craig), niece Kelsey French and nephews Cameron and Keenan French.
A celebration of life will be held on February 13, 2017, 12:00 p.m. at the Lacey Community Center, 6729 Pacific Avenue SE, Lacey, WA.
