Don Wiley Green, 11/26/1933-04/15/2021 passed away gently in his sleep after a period of illness. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Marjorie Fairbourne Green, his son Michael Don Green and daughter-in-law Danielle, his daughter Deborah Robertson and her children Ruth, Grant, and Hana Robertson, and many family members and friends. He was the last of his beloved siblings to pass away.
He devoted 26 years to military service in the US Navy. He met Marjorie while stationed at the EBR-1 nuclear plant in Arco, Idaho. His service spanned the Korean and Vietnam wars as well as times of peace. He served his country with honor, and was recognized for exemplary service and resourcefulness under pressure.
Don was known by many names: Honey, Brother Green, Senior Chief, Dad, Grandpa, Don Wiley, and even sometimes Loser—a nickname given to him by a feisty niece. No matter what you called him, everyone knew him as a man of patience, faith, gentleness, wisdom and quiet strength. His family came first and he cared for his wife, kids, grandkids, and extended family with behind-the-scenes acts of perfect thoughtfulness, creating a sense of steadiness and safety not common in this world.
Don's faith as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was central in his life. He loved the Church and his Savior as well the friends he made. He served two missions for the Church in his later years: a Welfare Services Mission and a Genealogical Mission where he was able to share his passion for genealogy.
At the end of a life well lived, with many sleepless nights providing watch at sea, and many more watching over family, it is your turn Senior Chief, Honey, Dad, Grandpa to rest. We will miss you.
