Donald Allen Nausley Sr., age 67, passed away peacefully from respiratory failure at his home in Rochester, Washington, surrounded by his friends and family on the morning of March 18, 2010. he was born on April 25, 1942 in Breckenridge, Colorado. He spent most of his childhood in Tooele, Utah and then joined the Navy in 1960, where he was stationed on the USS Bon Homme Richard until 1963. He met the girl of his dreams, they were married two weeks later on June 15, 1963 and were together for a wonderful 46 years. They made their home in Tacoma, Washington, then later settled in Olympia, and then made their final home in Rochester, Washington. Don opened his own business, Mufflers Unlimited, in 1972 and worked very hard until he sold it to Walt Austin (Walt's Radiator & Muffler's) in the late 70's. He continued to work for Walt's until he retire in 2003. He then went to work for Muffler Man in Centralia, WA, and then became the handy man at Olympia Manor until he totally retired in 2007, when he was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. He courageously fought the lung cancer and was a trooper through chemo and radiation therapy. He had his lung removed in January of 2008. After that he had a renewed zest for life, enjoying every possible moment with his family and friends. He remained cancer free and wanted people to know there was medical hope for those who suffer from cancer. Don was a very loving, supportive, practical joker, a great mentor, and he touched many lives. He enjoyed remodeling his home, helping people, tinkering in his garage, and had a passion to work on and restore old cars. Most of all he loved being a husband, father, and grandfather.
Donald is survived by his wife, Patsy; Daughter Donna Harrington and spouse Keith of Rainier, WA; Daughter Dianna Nausley and Randy Knighton of Olympia, WA; And Son Donald Nausley Jr. and spouse Shawna of Olympia, WA; And Grandchildren Michael Brown, Jesse Brown, Tina Sharkey, Austin Ayers, and Levi Nausley. He is also survived by his siblings, Erma Fry of Olympia, WA, Bob Nausley of Tacoma, WA, Charlie Nausley of Fresno, CA, Cher Watson of Sandy, Utah, Vicki Bolinder of Tooele, UT, and Pattee Nausley of Tooele, UT. He is proceeded in death by his mother and father, Harry and Ruth Nausley, brothers Larry and Walter Nausley, and his sister Eva Zubak. He also leaves behind countless numbers of family and friends who loved and will miss him.
The family would like to thank all of the medical staff who took care of Don throughout his treatments and a special thanks to Dr. Kong for giving us three additional, glorious years with our family.
Memorial Services will be held at Mills and Mills Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 5725 Littlerock Rd. 98512 Tumwater, WA in the chapel, Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at 10:00am.
