

Don graduated from Avon High School. After high school he continued his education at the Dekalb Business College and graduated with a degree in business. He then enlisted in the Army, where he was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington. While there he met the love of his life Lorraine Anderson, at a restaurant named the XXX Drive-In, in Olympia, Washington. Don married Lorraine on June 26, 1954 at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Olympia.
Don held various jobs. He worked as a third generation grocer in the family store Orwigs Market in Avon, Illinois until 1970.
Don and his family moved back to Washington when Boeing was putting up billboards saying “Last person leaving Seattle turn off the lights”. Don then worked as Thurston County’s Chief Deputy Auditor and continued to work in other departments for the County until his retirement.
Don enjoyed his family, friends, traveling, cooking, church and cribbage. He was a proud member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and the Masonic Temple.
Don is survived by his wife Lorraine of 62 years and three children; Chuck Orwig, Denise (Thomas) Jorgenson, Jeff (Michell) Orwig, six grandchildren; Jaclyn (Shawn) Leathers, Jared Jorgenson, Erin Orwig, Evan Orwig, Austin Orwig and Garrett Orwig; four great-grandchildren, Carter Quiles, Brycen Leathers, Jadyne Leathers, Brendyne Leathers and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Olympia, 1515 Harrison Ave. NW Olympia, WA 98502 on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at 11:00 am. A reception will be following the service at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made in his name to the American Cancer Society.
