Donna, the youngest of five children, was born on June 12, 1938 in Yakima, Washington to Dean and Eva Bradley. The family moved to Shelton, where Donna grew up. One of her fondest memories was riding on a sleigh pulled by her dad’s workhorse that he used for logging. She loved to tell stories of growing up with her brothers Jack and Richard and her sisters Shirley and Joann.
Donna married Leslie A. Shigley on December 23, 1955 who was serving in the Air Force. They were soon stationed in Alaska, where her first daughter, Donna Jo was born. The family was then stationed in Moses Lake, Washington where her second daughter Melody was born. The next transfer was to Minot, North Dakota and her third daughter Valorie was born. Her son, Leslie G was born in Omaha Nebraska. Do you notice a trend here? Due to her husband’s career the family also lived in Texas, California, Egypt and England before settling down in Olympia. When her babies were mostly grown, she went to work for the State of Washington as a clerk in the Department of Licensing before retiring after 24 years.
Donna was fortunate to remarry two very wonderful men after her divorce from Les. Her second husband, O. LeRoy Bailey preceded her in death in 1992. They enjoyed travel, music and being with family. She then married Luis Outumurrow, and they enjoyed traveling and being snowbirds before his death in 2013. She loved to shock people that she had divorced one, and buried two husbands. Then she would tell them that she was blessed to have known and loved such amazing people.
Donna survived her battle with breast cancer, and was proud of her war scars. She and her sister Shirley would join the cancer walk in Shelton each year, proudly wearing all of their medals. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and her sister Shirley. She is survived by her sister Joann, her children, Donna Partyka (Ron), Melody Simmons (Curt), Valorie Paulsen (Dean) and Leslie Shigley, six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was very proud and loved all of her children. The things that made her smile were her babies, family, friends and music. Donna wrote a note saying that she wanted this included in her obituary, “You are all my heart, Love Mom”
Donna loved family get-togethers, and would make sure to let everyone know the time and place. To that end, there will be a Celebration of Life on May 3rd at her daughter Valorie’s house. Be sure to wear your party clothes and bring your laughter.
