First Sergeant Edgar Hugh Doolittle, U.S. Army (Ret.), passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026, at the age of 84. Born into a proud military family on March 9, 1942, he served his country for 22 years. His service included two tours in Vietnam and garnered multiple commendations, most notably the Bronze Star.
The Army sent Edgar all over the world, fostering his lifelong love of travel. Stationed primarily in Europe and southeast Asia, Edgar met his wife Ingeborg while living in Germany. Upon Edgar’s military retirement, the couple relocated to Washington state. Here, Edgar pursued a second career as a corrections officer and also stayed busy raising three sons: David, James, and Michael.
Edgar was an avid Elvis Presley fan. His hobbies included skiing, boating, and fishing. In his later years, Edgar fully enjoyed the “snowbird” life, splitting time between Lacey, WA and El Centro, CA. After a lifetime of international travel, he often remarked how lucky he felt to see more of the United States.
Edgar was preceded in death by his parents and older sister. He is survived by his wife, sons, and grandchildren. He will be remembered forever as a dedicated patriot and loving husband, father, and grandfather.
