Duncan Oklahoma. He was one of 8 children born into the family and has been their sole
survivor for close to 30 years. He passed away peacefully on January 16, 2020 enveloped in
the love of his family.
After high school he worked in the timber industry with his older brother. That work brought him
to Estacada Oregon. It was there that he met his bride of 68 years (Edna) and they married in
1951. Together they raised a family of five children.
He and Edna settled in the Olympia area in 1966 and he began a 25 year career with the
Washington State Department of Transportation as a heavy equipment mechanic, and
eventually, shop supervisor. In 1978 that work took him to Port Angeles, WA, where he finished
his career and retired in the early nineties.
While his main goal was to always work hard and provide for his family, he enjoyed hunting and
fishing. He and Edna were members of the Square Dance community for many years. He had
an appreciation for cars and farm life. He was also a softball umpire in Port Angeles prior to his
retirement. He and Edna enjoyed their life as snowbirds and shared a career as campground
hosts, in many campgrounds in California, Arizona and Washington. He loved the time they
spent on the Icicle River in Leavenworth Washington.
He possessed a strong work ethic and had a talent for teaching by example. While he was
always a man of God, his faith and dedication to the Lord only grew as his physical abilities
faded.
He is survived by his loving wife Edna, his five children, Karen Carpenter (T Ferguson), Gordon
Carpenter (Jan Carpenter), Beverly Carpenter (Steve Bryant), Russ Carpenter (Shellie
Carpenter) and Debbie Wyman (Ralph Wyman), his many cherished grandchildren and great
grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Go rest high on the mountain Dad, your work here is done.
