It is with great sadness that we said our final goodbyes to Gina Robin Carney on May 5, 2018. Her thirst for adventure, self reliance, resilience, and an unconditional acceptance for all who crossed her path will be missed.
Gina lived a colorful life that she made no excuses for. It was not traditional or easy to describe, but she lived her life with passion. Gina was a great friend to many, supported and loved by hundreds of animals, and shared her artwork that she put so much of herself into.
Gina was always proud of her children Josh and Robynn. She was full of gratitude for their fathers for raising them and making sure they stayed connected with her and her family members. She carried them always in her heart.
Gina was a self-taught artist encouraged and mentored by her Auntie Sue from her early childhood. She tanned hides, collected porcupine quills and created Indian artwork including cradle boards for her children. She did oil painting and later took up airbrush painting on motorcycles, gas tanks, horse trailers, and pickups. She was also an avid crocheter making up her own designs and patterns.
Gina required little but created and gave much to those she considered family. Her lineage spread beyond her immediate family to many across the country who she was able to continue relationships with through Facebook.
With her partner, David, Gina was able to create the little farm she had always dreamed of; full of horses, chickens, tukeys, goats, cats and dogs; she also loved to raise all kinds of plants. At the end, her greatest desire was to live her final days surrounded by the family she loved so much in Washington; this she was able to do. What a blessing to have her back home.
So in the words of Josh Olds, “Gina, may you be greeted at the gates with wild horses, the thundering roar of motorcycles, and shredding guitar solos…..”
