Gladys Elinor Gerson Roseman

February 8, 1934June 8, 2018

Gladys Roseman died in Olympia, WA on June 8, 2018. Born February 8, 1934 in Pittsburgh, PA, USA to Jack and Marian Gerson. Married to Mel Roseman on Dec. 21, 1952. After attending UCLA, Gladys joined her husband in Salzburg, Austria, and later lived in Westwood CA, and Encino, CA. She moved to Olympia, WA after the death of her husband in 2014. Survivors include her children, Marcia Sarka (Michael), Calabasas, CA; Dr. Barry Roseman (Susan) Atlanta, GA; Barbara Roseman, Olympia, WA and Sara Eve Sarliker, Olympia, WA. Four grandchildren: Jeremy Sarka, Ethan Roseman, Seth Roseman and Ella Sarliker, and a niece, Sydney Tanaka. She was predeceased by her brother, Richard Gerson. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Shelley North Gerson and Irene Radner.

Her occupation was teaching young children. She received an MA in Early Childhood Education from Cal State Northridge, and after working in various nursery schools, she joined the Los Angeles Unified School District, and retired in 1999. She was an active and proud member of the local and statewide Teachers Unions, both while she was teaching and after retirement.

Gladys loved to garden, and was very fond of nature. She had great pleasure in music, both classical and folk. Her main avocation was reading, and she was a member of the CCNC Book Club; and shared many of her insights with others. She loved learning, and never stopped, and she was known by many teachers and students at the Olympia Senior Center, Temple Beth Hatfiloh, and she loved the time she spent with friends at STEP and STEP 2. She had many philanthropic interests, especially the ACLU, many Jewish causes including Olympia's Temple Beth Haftiloh, as well as Planned Parenthood and the Humane Society. While she loved flowers, she preferred that memorial contributions be made to these organizations, or Northwest Harvest, in her name. She was a role model for living life fully and with tremendous love, and she will be greatly missed by all the people and animals in her life, especially her family dog, Peekaboo.

Services will be held at the Masonic Memorial Park in Tumwater at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13. All who knew her or who were touched by her life are welcome.

My mother was a kind and thoughtful person, full of life, giving of her love and attention. I can only hope I live up to her example.
