Gloria Jean Mayberry, 90, of Olympia, Washington, peacefully passed away August 30, 2019, with her family by her side. She was born to the late George Richards and Floris Ross on January 4, 1929 in Fall City, Washington.
Gloria graduated from Mt. Si High School, where she was involved in activities, including being a member of the cheer squad. She attended Washington State University, and while there she pursued a degree in Police Science. At WSU she met the love of her life, Robert (Bill) Mayberry. They were married in Carnation, Washington on June 9, 1950.Gloria and her husband had the privilege of living in various communities throughout the state of Washington. Upon retirement, they settled in Olympia.
She is survived by her husband, Bill, their three children; Linda Carlyle and Mike Mayberry of Olympia, and Patti Maxfield of Union, Washington, and their families, including eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. She was immensely proud of her family and loved attending all their activities. Gloria enjoyed working outside of their home at several jobs such as a secretary, dental assistant and clerk in two county Auditor offices. While enjoying her work outside her home, she was happiest as a homemaker for her husband and family. Some of her hobbies included golfing, Bridge clubs, and watching the WSU Cougars, Mariners and Seahawks.
Gloria had a big heart and was supportive of her friends and family. She wasn’t afraid to give her opinion, but always encouraged them to follow their own path in life, as she loved them all dearly.
In lieu of flowers or memorials the family suggests donations to Thurston County Food Bank (or other food charities), as Gloria was a great hostess and always wanted to make sure that everyone was fed and happy. A private family service will be held at Mills & Mills Funeral Home in Tumwater, Washington.”
