Ignacio Garrido Leon Guerrero

Ignacio Garrido Leon Guerrero was born on August 13, 1929 in Merizo, Guam, to the parents of Pedro Rivera Leon Guerrero and Estafania Reyes Garrido Leon Guerrero. He faithfully served his country in the United States Army for over 20 years. He was a 2-time war vet in the Vietnam, and Korean War, stationed in Germany, Hawaii, New Jersey and then retiring in Fort Lewis, Washington in 1969 as a Sergeant First Class. He then went on to a second career working for the State of Washington and the Franklin Pierce School District in Tacoma, Washington.

He was an active member at the St. John Bosco Catholic Church and The Guam Club. Ignacio loved to hunt deer, elk, and go fishing. He also played in a bowling league on the Fort Lewis Base back in the 70’s. Ignacio enjoyed playing cards such as spades and pinochle with his compadres and family. Ignacio never liked to lose and according to him he never did. Ignacio was a very sincere, humble and practical man. He was a doting husband and dedicated father who loved his children, grand children and great grand children so much so that everyone had a special and unique nickname. Ignacio preferred his cultural foods and he could always be seen in a Guamanian tropical shirt. He was a strong proud Chamorro man; who fought and overcame many health issues with a sharp mind until the end.

Ignacio was preceded in death by his parents Pedro Rivera Leon Guerrero and Estafania Reyes Garrido Leon Guerrero. His wife Florence San Nicolas Paulino Leon Guerrero, and his great grandson Josiah. Eight siblings; Maximino G. Leon Guerrero, Jose G. Leon Guerrero, Carmen G. Leon Guerrero, Jesus G. Leon Guerrero I, Vicente G. Leon Guerrero, Jesus G. Leon Guerrero II, Mariquita G. Leon Guerrero, Ramon G. Leon Guerrero.

Ignacio is survived by six children, William Leon Guerrero, Larry Leon Guerrero, Marie Leon Guerrero, Jayne Leon Guerrero (Steve), Esther LG Ratliff (Troy), Peter Leon Guerrero (Amie); eight grand children, Ernesto Watson, Deniece Watson, Reanee Pasamante, Akira Leon Guerrero, Escense Ratliff, Ti’erra Ratliff, Lyndsey Bailey, Alyssa Leon Guerrero; eight great grand children, Kayla, Kyli, Ayannah, Taezha, Ernesto Jr., Kameron, Araya, Kingston, and a host of nephews and nieces.
