Not long after graduating from Tenino High School, Iris met the love of her life Chuck Zimmerman, and they married in 1952. For many years they raised their 3 children in Grays Harbor where Chuck was self- employed. They later moved the family to Tumwater, WA where Chuck opened his largest and final business Capital City Automotive. Iris helped with bookkeeping for the family business and cared for the home and needs of their three children, Lee, Rod and Charlene.
Iris dearly loved gardening and would have big vegetable gardens that she would tend to throughout the spring and summer. She loved music and playing her keyboard. She had a beautiful voice and was a member of “Sweet Adelines” and would perform in the community. She became an amazing oil painter and her paintings are on proud display in her family’s homes. She learned to co-pilot airplanes with Chuck as her pilot and they flew the kids around the State. Iris also accompanied Chuck while touring around in his antique car collection! Iris had a wonderful sense of humor and words cannot reflect how much she loved and was loved throughout her life.
