It is with a heavy heart that we announce on April 27, 2021 Jae Young Choi - adoring father, dutiful son, patient brother, passed away at the age of 45. Jae was born on July 10, 1975 in Seoul, South Korea to Sun Cha Schaeffer. He was baptized in the Catholic Church on April 14, 1990. In 1994 Jae graduated from Spencer High School in Columbus, Georgia and went on to start college. Ultimately, he decided to join the United States Army, service 14+ years, deploying several times during his career until he was medically discharged in 2013. Jae joyously welcomed his daughter, Ruby Choi, into this world in 2003. He is survived by his daughter, mother, and three younger siblings, Michael Schaeffer, Dianna Burch, and Krista Barnes.

Prior to taking on his most beloved role as Ruby's dad, Jae helped tend and inspire his younger brother and sisters, embedding knowledge on all things comic book and art related. That same passion shared with them he passed onto his daughter, whom he fostered a love of art. She remembers fondly looking at his art projects while in college which he kept in journals. Jae was many things - talented, strict, goofy, tactless at times, but always loving and inspiring, never accepting anything less than your very best. The true telling of his character can be found in the memories of his daughter - "My Dad was always so selfless, honest, and strong." Even when she saw the pain in his face, "he would always say he was okay with a smile." His favorite moments in life were spent with Ruby, always ready to guide and protect her. Though he left us too soon - he left us with an imprint of a strong spirit, loving guidance, and unconditional devotion.
