With both great sadness and gratitude for a life so well-lived, the family of James Vincent Harris announces his passing due to stroke-related complications on May 8, 2022, at the age of 77. James “Gunny Jim” Harris was the son of Lois Vincent and James Kenneth Harris, and is survived by his sister Judith Harris, his loving wife of 54 years Kathleen Lau Harris, his children Scott (Christa), Cory (Laurie), Lorien (Sione), Daniel (Khealynn), Timothy (deceased), and six amazing grandchildren.
A Memorial Service celebrating Jim’s Life and Legacy will be held on Friday, May 27, 2022, at 12:00pm, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 600 Overhulse Rd NW, in Olympia. An Inurnment and graveside Military Honors Ceremony will take place at a future date, as yet to be determined.
James Vincent Harris was born on March 20, 1945, into a family with a long tradition of Military and Civil Service. He honored that legacy by joining the Marines as a young man, became a decorated Vietnam combat veteran, and accomplished Linguist and Security Specialist. After more than 20 years of Service, Gunnery Sergeant James Harris retired from Marine Corps Active Duty, continuing to provide leadership, expertise, and humor throughout his lengthy “second” career with the Boeing Company.
Jim was also a dedicated spiritual and family man, dedicating much of his life to the care and well-being of others through his Church and Charitable endeavors. He was a man of unquestioned integrity, character, compassion, and love. He was a beloved hero, loving husband, caring father, loyal friend, and so much more. His impact and legacy are truly immeasurable, and he will be sorely missed by all those whose lives are better for having known him.
