James was born in Seattle but raised in Marysville WA. After graduating high school, class of 1967, James enlisted in the United States Marine Corps serving from 1967 until 1970. James served his country as a Tank Commander in Vietnam.
In 1972 James married Sandra Williams until 1980. James is survived by his son Mike and daughter in law, Ann. His daughter Jennifer and her wife Melissa. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Mike Jr. and Lachelle.
In 1985 James married his wife Lynda, the two remained married until her passing in 2010.
