Julian Joseph (Joe) Hendrickson, born January 30, 1927, died on July 5, 2012 with cancer taking his life. He loved many things, but especially his family, including his wonderful wife Barbara, who preceded him in death in 2006 after 57 years together, and his three sons; Steven (and his wife Pat and grandchildren Janna and Damon), David, and Jim (and his wife Karin).
Joe’s adventurous spirit produced many amazing accomplishments. He entered the Merchant Marines at 16, spending time in the Pacific Theater. He worked at many places including Shakertown in Winlock, Washington in the timber industry, where he retired after 35 years.
His dreams to fly lead him to purchase a Cessna 150 before learning to fly it. His wish to be proficient at boating brought years of enjoyment in his 31’ Owens (his favorite among many), providing his family with many eventful trips on Puget Sound. Joe and Barbara spent their retirement years in their Airstream trailer that took them to Alaska, Florida, Washington DC, California, and all points between. Travel to Hayward, Wisconsin was especially rewarding for Joe as he sought his family roots. He met many of his relatives and developed lasting friendships.
Joe was a special husband, father and grandfather. Please remember him and how much he enjoyed his friends including those at Land Yacht Harbor in Lacey, and how special his family has always been to him. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm, July 13th at Mills and Mills Funeral Home in Tumwater, WA.
