Karen Christie Tuason was born on September 25, 1970 in Vancouver, British Columbia bringing much joy to her parents, Chester and Lynette. Karen had a big sister, Kathrine and little brother, Chester Jr. The family grew up together in Surrey, BC. When Karen was a tot, she became attached to her favorite pillow, “Poo-Poo Pillow”, and had it with her at every bedtime. She also had two imaginary friends, Bowsy and Bowsy-Lynn. Growing up, Karen was assertive and protective of those around her. Karen once punched someone who was bullying Kathrine and she also saved Kathrine when frightened by a passing ant by stomping it beneath her feet.
Karen was educated at Simon Fraser University where she earned a Bachelor in Business Administration. Karen established herself as an accountant and enjoyed her job and most importantly all those she worked with. She and Phoebe (her pit bull) moved to Lacey, WA in 2005. Phoebe, also a Canadian, was
a well-traveled dog. She and Karen shared many adventures together. Karen met and fell in love with her best friend, Lawrence, in 2011 while they were taking classes for initiation into the Roman Catholic Church. They married September 21, 2013. The three of them continued with their wonderful adventures together often travelling to BC to visit her family.
Karen was a devout Roman Catholic and had a strong devotion to Mary. From 2010 until her passing she prayed the Rosary every day. She would sometimes fall asleep while praying but would invariably wake up and complete the Rosary for that day. Karen was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in May 2014. Throughout her treatment she remained unrelentingly positive and always managed to impress her doctors and nurses with her optimism. She
succumbed to complications due to her cancer on April 16, 2015.
